Goossen was trained as a sculptor at the Rietveld Academy and as an architect in San Francisco. This may explain the contradiction in his constructions - such as the Walking Square - and his preference for geometric shapes. He manages to achieve maximum expansion with a minimum of material.
To depict both transparency and mass, both a building and a sculpture. In short, the Walking Square is an 'impossible' flexible metal braid.
