Hiking
Like many streets in Erfurt's old town, Schildgasse breathes history. The name is very likely derived from the Schildchenmühle, a former water mill on the Gera river, which was already mentioned in 1199.
Schildgasse is known for its well-preserved historical buildings. The alley features typical Erfurt half-timbered houses from various centuries. Houses number 3 and 4, in particular, are listed buildings and showcase the classic architecture of the region.
