    Hiking

Small village at 850 meters above sea level near Bagni di Lucca in Garfagnana in the province of Lucca. Near the village there are several paths including the path of the ancestors, a loop of about 12 kilometers that allows, with departure and arrival from the village, passing through Foce a Lago, to reach the peaks of Coronato and Monte Pratofiorito through a well-marked hiking path from the CAI and with notable points of interest. The dedication to the Avi is intended as a tribute to the people who made the history of these places.

Embark on the Sentiero degli Avi, a difficult 4.8-mile (7.7 km) ring tour that climbs 1399 feet (426 metres) over approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. This challenging hike features varied terrain, including natural paths, alpine sections, and some paved or dirt roads, often winding through wooded areas. You will experience steep climbs along the slopes of Monte Coronato, leading to breathtaking views from its summit, where prairies burst with wildflowers in the spring. From higher elevations, you can also enjoy expansive views of the Apuan Alps, showcasing the beauty of the Garfagnana region.

This hard hike demands good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy footwear, with some sections requiring alpine experience. While the trail is passable year-round, spring offers the added bonus of countless wildflower species on Monte Coronato's prairies. The route starts from Montefegatesi, providing a clear access point for your adventure. Be prepared for a demanding but rewarding experience in the Tuscan landscape.

The Sentiero degli Avi, or "Path of the Ancestors," is more than just a trail; it is a tribute to the people who have shaped the history of this beautiful area. This path was inaugurated to enhance and restore an ancient route, connecting Montefegatesi directly to the summit of Monte Coronato. It offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a special part of Tuscany, nestled between the Lima Valley and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, while honoring its rich heritage.
