According to tradition, the parish in Pulderbos probably originated around a Maria chapel near the Willeboerebeek. Initially it must have been a tree chapel with a wooden lady statue. Legend has it that the statue, taken several times, always returned to its place. A silk thread led from the chapel to the place in the village where the church will later be built in which the statue will be housed

On the east side of the village square, walled cemetery around the church. Early Gothic tower possibly from the 13th century; originally choir, nave and transept erected in the 16th century, church enlarged in 1913-14 after a design by Ernest Dieltiens, burned out in 1914 and restored in 1922-24 after a design by architects Ernest Dieltiens and Jef Huygh
