Great overlook to the North at the end of Encinitas Dr. Here begins the dirt section along Mulholland Drive, mostly manageable gravel with little to no vehicle traffic.

This is the Mulholland Scenic Overlook, one of the overlook points on the beautiful Mulholland Drive. The latter being a 55-mile long winding road that connects the Hollywood Hills to Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu. This one looks out on and has great views of the Encino Hills.

The Encino Reservoir & San Vicente Mountain Gravel loop from Calabasas offers a dynamic touring cycling experience, blending challenging climbs with expansive vistas. You'll navigate a mix of fire roads, unpaved sections of Mulholland Drive, and some singletrack, all while soaking in panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains and the San Fernando Valley. The route's highlight is undoubtedly the car-free gravel path along Mulholland Drive, leading to viewpoints like the San Vicente Mountain Viewpoint.

This is a difficult 14.0-mile (22.5 km) ride with a significant 2198 feet (670 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 2 hours and 1 minute. You'll need a good level of fitness and a gravel or mountain bike to tackle the varied terrain. Plan your visit for cooler parts of the day, especially if riding in summer, and ensure your bike is well-suited for rougher sections.

Beyond the physical challenge, the route offers a glimpse into Cold War history at the San Vicente Mountain Nike Missile Radar Tower, operational from 1956-1968. This site provides not only historical context but also some of the best 360-degree views in the area, making it a prime spot to catch a Western sunset after your ride.
