There is a white memorial cross at the rectory in Stiering-Wendel, which is surrounded by a small fence. It commemorates the 32e régiment d'infanterie de ligne, which took part in the battles near Stiering-Wendel in August 1870 as part of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Division of the 2e Corps de l'armée du Rhin (Rhine Army) and was stationed in Metz.
