Limekilns built in the 18th century and later used for curing herring. They’re still in marvellous condition and located right beside the harbour.

Hiking
The Beadnell lime kilns were built in 1798 and stand at roughly 9 metres tall. Coal and limestone were brought to the top via a tramway to produce quicklime, which was used locally as agricultural fertilizer or building mortar, and heavily exported by sea to Scottish markets. By 1822, active lime production declined, and the arches/kiln eyes were repurposed for curing herrings.
