After the "Kleiner Johannes" colliery was shut down on April 30, 1941, the Marienschacht was filled in. The mine site and associated facilities are initially used for small business and eventually fall into disrepair. The Arzberg City Council's decision in 1994 to demolish the building was never implemented. The historical awareness of the Arzberg mining tradition prevails.
Reconstruction begins in 1999, two years later the information center of the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park "Kleiner Johannes" is opened. The show mine shows the history of local mining.
