    Hiking

Between the Tarres and Laces alpine pastures in Val Venosta, from this panoramic point you will have a great view of the surrounding peaks, the alpine meadows on the mountainsides and the valley floor. From here you can also continue to reach several peaks of almost 3,000 meters, such as Monte Confinale.

The Barbarossa Trail Loop is a challenging hike that takes you through diverse alpine landscapes. You will ascend through thick forests, emerging into open alpine meadows with bubbling mountain streams. Along the way, expect spectacular viewpoints that offer wide vistas over the Val Venosta valley and the Vinschgau region, with the distant Ötztal Alps visible on clear days. A peaceful highlight is Tarscher See, nestled within a lush green mixed forest, providing a perfect spot for a break. This difficult route covers 8.5 miles (13.7 km) and involves a significant 3317 feet (1011 metres) of elevation gain, requiring about 6 hours and 15 minutes to complete.

Planning your visit requires preparation for this demanding trail. It is rated as difficult, similar to SAC 4–6, so be ready for steep ascents and very steep descents; hiking poles are highly recommended to assist you. For a more relaxed start, you can consider taking a chairlift to the Tarscher Alm, which typically operates from mid-May to mid-October. A convenient shuttle bus service connects Latsch to the chairlift's valley station, making access easier.

This trail is situated within the expansive Stelvio National Park, an area known for its rich natural environment. The route offers a unique opportunity to experience the park's varied ecosystems, from dense forests to high alpine meadows. The Tarscher See itself is a notable feature, providing a serene natural setting that stands out in the region. This loop is an excellent choice if you are looking for a substantial hiking challenge within a protected and scenic landscape.
