Hiking

The life-size bronze figure depicts a Kathus poacher returning from the Seulingswald forest with a roebuck in his backpack and his rifle under his coat, making sure once again that he is not being pursued. He will hide the roebuck in the shaft of his secret well until the danger of discovery has passed. Poachers lived dangerous lives, receiving prison and forced labor. In 1613, the Hessian Landgrave even ordered the death penalty by hanging for "poaching" in the Seulingswald forest. Torture also frequently led to the death of a poacher.
