For us it was the first steep ascent on our P6 round trip on the Heldrastein, because our direction was clockwise. The beautiful view on the Kolonnenweg in the direction of Schnellmannshausen rewards the arduous ascent, which anyway only marks the first part to the Heldrastein. The second ascent can already be seen from here ...

Hiking

I also recommend hiking the premium hiking trail 6 clockwise and using this path as the ascent. Once you have crossed the Werra at the river dam, the steep but steady climb up to the column path follows. The path is a foretaste of the arduous climb that will follow later.
