The first beginnings of the garden are documented around the year 1500. From 1716, in keeping with the spirit of the time, a luxurious French baroque garden was created. But just 60 years later, the fundamental redesign and expansion into an English landscape garden began. It has survived in almost unchanged form to this day. The Ducal Garden has also been available to the public for almost 200 years. Today it is under monument protection as one of the most important garden works of art in northern Germany.
