The "Feschmat", first mentioned in the 12th century, was the center of fish sales. Cologne was an important center for the fish wholesale trade. In the urban "Vischkouffhuis" - the original name of the warehouse - herring, cod, kippers and plaice were not only traded, but also conserved, stored and repackaged.

Cologne also has a fish market to offer. Around 60 retailers set up their stands directly on the Rhine in the Tanzbrunnen on the Cologne exhibition grounds on seven Sundays. Feasting and enjoying is the order of the day, because there is no longer just fish and seafood here. Sausage, cheese, wine, fruit, vegetables and even baked goods are also available. The Cologne fish market is rounded off by the offers of the artisans. Handmade products such as jewellery, fashion and leather goods are popular with visitors.
