A peculiarity of the mill was its status: the gentlemen of Gymnich held the water law and thus the right to ban the mill, but not the compulsory right. This means that no other mills were allowed to be built and operated in the area of the mill, but the farmers enjoyed the freedom to switch to one of the mills in the neighboring towns outside the Gymnich ban area in order to have their grain ground there.

A beautiful old mill. There is a lot to experience here.

The Gymnich Mill has a lot to offer: There's a water park/playground for children (for a fee). The café is also open again and invites you to enjoy a coffee outside behind the building. If you're still up for some education, you should visit the Erft Museum... and not just because of the flood disaster... Oh, and by the way: at least they've been offering bread-baking courses so far – fitting for an old mill. Please let us know if you're interested.
