    Mountain biking

Very scenic trail offering some technical sections, a few challenging – but short – climbs, and some nice flowy parts. If you find Llama a bit too difficult, then take the bail out option on Bail Trail back to the very easy Bell Rock Trail.

Very techy climbs but fun downhill. Not for beginners!

If you're seeking a difficult mountain biking challenge, the Courthouse Butte and Bell Rock Loop offers 8.0 miles (12.8 km) of riding with 647 feet (197 metres) of elevation gain, typically completed in 1 hour and 11 minutes. This route takes you through Sedona's iconic red rock country, providing continuous views of the towering Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. You'll navigate varied terrain, from packed dirt to loose rocks and slickrock, with technical sections featuring dry washes and rocky ledges. The desert landscape is alive with junipers, piñons, and cacti, creating a vibrant backdrop for your ride.

Before you go, be aware that a Red Rocks Pass is usually needed for parking at trailheads like Bell Rock Pathway or Courthouse Vista. Parking can be difficult on weekends due to the trail's popularity, so plan to arrive early. Also, remember that some parts of the wider trail network, especially those entering the Munds Mountain Wilderness, are not open to bicycles. Since much of the loop is unshaded, it can get very hot during summer months, making cooler seasons or early mornings ideal.

This loop is a highlight within the Coconino National Forest, showcasing the dramatic red rock formations that make Sedona famous. It offers a unique opportunity to mountain bike directly among these geological wonders, providing a close-up experience of the desert ecosystem. The continuous, sweeping views of landmarks like Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte are a major draw, setting this trail apart as a quintessential Sedona adventure.
