Near the village is the Banholterheide, also called Island of Banholt, because it once lay between two arms of the Maas. The river took the soft earth around with it, but did not get a grip on the harder rock, which remained as an 'island'. Thousands of years ago flint was mined.
There is an information table that shows what can be seen with this view. Includes picnic table.
