Hiking

Unneri Brend is a small, seasonally inhabited mountain village, formerly used during the Alpine summer when locals drove their cattle to the higher pastures. The traditional houses are made of larch wood and built using log construction. Today, this charming village lies directly on the popular high-altitude hiking trail between Gspon and Saas-Grund and invites hikers to take a short break amidst the magnificent Alpine landscape.

Hiking

On the Gsponer Höhenweg (High Trail), you have to decide at Linde Bode (2,230 meters): continue along the summit to Kreuzboden or descend towards Saas Grund. The descent leads past the rather uninviting Heimischgartu summer restaurant (open only in good weather) and over the two old settlements of Obere and Unneri Brend (1,960 meters), located on the steep slope.

Here I want to say from my experience that the hike continues to Kreuzboden worthwhile. For me, the passage from the Grubenalb to Kreuzboden is the most beautiful part of the Gsponer Höhenweg. But that should not mean that the track is not beautiful up to here! ☺
