The worship of wells, springs, ponds and lakes, known as the water cult, is an ancient pre-Christian phenomenon and was probably also practiced in this fairytale place. There is not always a special "healing power" behind it. Such a "miraculous" spring is said to exist in Marienborn, which made the Bullerspring less important at the end of the 12th century.
