It has a station on the Esk Valley Line between Middlesborough and Whitby and is also host to a number of amenities. There's a small supermarket for stocking up on supplies and a couple of pubs that serve excellent food. The Downe Arms has bed and breakfast rooms and there are a few other private rental options in the village.
