The hospital has a long history. Conrad Gaymann († 1376), canon in St. Andrä and canon in Freising, determined in his will of 1374 that his entire estate should be used to build housing for poor, needy and sick people. The first monastery building was probably completed in 1378. An east-facing single-nave chapel with a tower on the north side also belonged to the hospital.
