The Synagogue of Bourtange dates from 1842 and served as a place of prayer and education for the Jewish community of Bourtange until the Second World War. In the Second World War, the entire Jewish community from Bourtange was deported to German camps. Only two people returned. A plaque on the side wall of the synagogue is a reminder of this.
