The deer torture is a reminder that there used to be a lot of deer and charcoal burners in the deer forest. The deer are coming back, but the charcoal burners aren't. A stag forks a charcoal burner.

Cycling

This torture shows very drastically how a coalfish is being forklifted by a deer. This Marterl originally stood in a somewhat more remote location, but was renovated in the 1960s and moved to its current location. It is a reminder of the long tradition of charcoal burning for iron ore smelting in the deer forest.
