Embark on a moderate 4.1-mile (6.6 km) hike through the New Forest, offering varied scenery and a gentle challenge. You'll gain 207 feet (63 metres) over approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, making it a pleasant outing. The route takes you across open heathland, where you can enjoy wide vistas and the feeling of expansive space. As you reach Turf Hill, keep an eye out for distant views stretching towards the Isle of Wight. The trail also guides you past Whitten Pond, a tranquil spot known for its grazing New Forest ponies and other local wildlife. This loop provides a refreshing escape into nature, perfect for a leisurely exploration.

Before you set out, be aware that the path can become muddy, particularly after rainfall. For this reason, waterproof boots are highly recommended to ensure a comfortable experience. While the trail is generally accessible, some sections may require you to be sure-footed. There are no specific permits or fees required to hike this route, allowing for straightforward planning. Consider starting your hike in the late morning to enjoy the best light and avoid any early morning dew.

This trail is particularly notable for its vibrant display of heather, which blooms in beautiful shades of purple and pink during late summer. The expansive heathland environment supports a rich ecosystem, making it an excellent location for wildlife spotting. Keep an eye out for the iconic New Forest ponies that roam freely, often seen near Whitten Pond. The route's blend of open landscapes and tranquil water features offers a quintessential New Forest experience, showcasing the park's natural beauty and unique character.
