History
The medieval Tower of the Uccellino, also known as the Usolino, was originally located along an important connecting road between the territories of Bologna and Ferrara.
Built in the 13th century, it was part of a castle surrounded by water and its structure recalls the most famous Bolognese towers. Its massive size testifies to the defensive reasons for its construction.
The garrison lost its importance when Alfonso d’Este, regardless of the protests of the Bolognese, removed the bell to obtain bronze for his cannons.
