Hiking

Before the city was founded, the area of the present-day park was an extensive sandbank. Under Frederick the Great, after 1740, the Swine estuary was fortified with piers, and sand began to accumulate here. Stone piers were built between 1818 and 1823. The silted-up area was a tangle of dunes, marshland, and waterholes. The Kurhaus was built on the Swine in 1825/26.
