Hiking

The Gilgbachtal is the result of erosion processes that began 15 million years ago when volcanism in the Vogelsberg was already drawing to a close. While large chunks and blocks of rock formed the so-called block heaps, the eroded fine-grained material was carried on by rivers. The material acted like sandpaper on the subsoil of the rivers and thus formed an ever deeper valley over the course of time. Thus the Gilgbachtal was born.
