"The plague column was erected in the middle of the square in 1712 to commemorate the plague epidemic that struck Trenčín in 1710. In the spirit of the Baroque period, it was built by the Viennese stonemasons after the suggestion of the Trentino and Liptov hereditary chief Nikolaus Ileshazy had worked on the renewal of the Piarist church.
