Inaugurated on August 16, 1981, the monument in honor of the Murtosa emigrants, the work of José João Brito, was celebrated with an open mass and a parade by local associations, highlighting the presence of the flags of countries relevant to the Murtoseira emigration. The statue was unveiled by João Campos, Murtosa's oldest emigrant.
