ON 17 AND 18 SEPTEMBER 1944, PARACHUTISTS AND GLIDER PLANES OF THE 1ST BRITISH AIRWAY DIVISION LANDED IN THE FIELDS AROUND THIS POINT.
FROM HERE THEY BEGAN THEIR ATTEMPT TO CONQUER THE RHINE BRIDGES AS PART OF OPERATION MARKET GARDEN.
