El Nacimiento del río Mundo invites you to immerse yourself in Albacete's wildest nature, with a circular route that leads you directly to the heart of its famous waterfall. You'll hike through pine forests and rock formations, discovering small pools and the impressive 100-meter waterfall that gives birth to the river. This 5.1-mile (8.2 km) route, with an elevation gain of 1129 feet (344 meters), is classified as moderate and can be completed in about 2 hours and 40 minutes, making it ideal for an active getaway.
To plan your visit, be aware that parking at the trailhead often incurs a fee and can fill up quickly, especially on busy days. If you want to see the waterfall at its most spectacular, a phenomenon known as "El Reventón," it's best to go after heavy rains or during the snowmelt season. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear, as some areas near the water can be slippery.
This trail is a gem within the Parque Natural de los Calares del Mundo y de la Sima, renowned for its karst geology, with sinkholes and chasms shaping a unique landscape. In addition to the waterfall, you can admire the park's rich biodiversity, featuring over 135 endemic plant species and the chance to spot ibex or griffon vultures, making this route a complete experience for nature lovers.
