    Hiking

From Punta del Cavallo you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Bellino Valley and the Pontechianale Lake.

    Mountain biking

Very steep and constant climb that leads to the Colle della Battagliola. I recommend the passage from Punta del Cavallo where you can admire the Monviso mucciato and below us the Pontechianale dam where you can go down from the hill of the battagliola

Climb to Monte Pietralunga and to the point of Battagliola — Ring tour

    15.2km

    06:55

    1,150m

    1,150m

Embark on a difficult 9.4-mile (15.2 km) ring tour that challenges you with 3774 feet (1150 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking 6 hours and 55 minutes to complete. This hike through the Cottian Alps offers diverse terrain, from steep forest paths to rocky ledges and scree. You will find spectacular views overlooking Lago Castello and the town of Pontechianale from Punta della Battagliola, before continuing to the panoramic summit of Monte Pietralunga.

This challenging route requires good fitness, sure-footedness, sturdy shoes, and some alpine experience. Be prepared for steep and strenuous sections, especially the initial climb from Pontechianale to Colle della Battagliola, and some exposure in higher areas. The trail is often best undertaken in late spring, as the snow melts earlier due to favorable exposure, or during the autumn months.

A unique feature of this trail is the fixed rope installed in the channel of Passo del Ciat, which aids in navigating a more technical part of the ascent to Monte Pietralunga. The area also holds historical significance; you can find remnants of fortifications at Punta della Battagliola from clashes during the War of Austrian Succession in 1744. From Monte Pietralunga, you will enjoy expansive vistas of Monviso, Cima delle Lobbie, and Punta Gastaldi, stretching across the Bellino and Pontechianale valleys.
