The memorial to the victims of the Franco-Prussian War was erected in a central, public place on the way to the town church. Three years after the construction of the new town church, the monument was inaugurated on September 24, 1876 with a big patriotic celebration.

In front of the main entrance of the Malchow town church there is a small obelisk-like memorial stone.
A plaque commemorates the dead soldiers from Malchow and the surrounding area in the war in France from 1870 to 1873.
The memorial was inaugurated on September 24, 1876 on the way to the town church.
The initiative for the construction of the small monument came from the warriors' association founded on October 31, 1873.
