    Lighthouse & Chimney Rock Road

The Lighthouse & Chimney Rock Road cycling route offers a truly immersive experience into the wild beauty of Point Reyes National Seashore. You'll pedal through open, rolling wild grasslands, with the Pacific Ocean always a dramatic backdrop, leading you towards the iconic Point Reyes Lighthouse and the rugged bluffs of Chimney Rock. The terrain is a mix of well-maintained roads and constant, challenging rollers, providing a dynamic and engaging ride from start to finish.

This is a difficult 42.9-mile (69.1 km) road cycling route with a substantial 2972 feet (906 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 3 hours and 24 minutes. For the best experience, consider riding during the winter months (December through April) on weekends, when the final 5 miles of the main road are closed to vehicle traffic, allowing for a more peaceful ride. Be prepared for limited cell service and services within the park, so bring everything you need.

Beyond the physical challenge, the route is rich in natural wonders. Near Chimney Rock, especially from December to March, you might spot elephant seals, adding a unique wildlife viewing opportunity to your ride. The historic Point Reyes Lighthouse itself is a significant landmark, perched dramatically on a rocky cliff, offering a rewarding destination after the demanding climbs.
