People have been making pilgrimages there since the Middle Ages.
The current church dates from the 17th century and is an impressive baroque work of art, with a magnificent high altar and a richly decorated interior, stucco, frescoes.
At the center is "the" revered statue of Mary.
Elevation to "Basilica minor" in 1935, Pope Pius XI conferred the special distinction on the church.
The Basilica is located in idyllic nature in a quiet place, Marienweiher.
