A tragedy was the impetus for founding the Königsfelden monastery: King Albrecht I was murdered here in 1308, and his widow and daughter Agnes of Hungary had the monastery richly furnished. Particularly noteworthy are the medieval stained glass windows.

The facility is open to visitors from April 1st to October 31st from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays are closed. You can find all information at museumaargau.ch/kloster-koenigsfelden.

The monastery Königsfelden has been shining in Windisch for 700 years with its colorful stained glass windows known all over Europe. It is a place of remembrance and center of power of the Habsburgs.

The colored stained glass windows of Königsfelden Monastery are among the highlights of late medieval stained glass in Europe. The church and the double monastery were donated as Habsburg memorial place by the widow of the 1308 murdered Roman-German King Albrecht I von Habsburg. A selected program of public tours, events, workshops, Habsburg cultural tours and audiovisual guides will bring the historical setting to life.
