Perhaps the Ruhr area would have had to be named after this small body of water, after all the Elpenbach cradle was the flourishing metallurgical industry of the region. It had begun on Elpenbachufer already in 1758. The St. Antony Hut was the first iron-smelting operation in the Ruhr area.
