The landmark of Wunsiedel got its name in the very first year of its existence (1471). It was called the "koppeten tower", most likely because it did not yet have a developed spire. This was only added about 20 years later. The tower burned down in the town fire of 1834. It was rebuilt in its current form in 1838, according to a plan (still in existence) that had been drawn up at the Kreis-Bau-Bureau in Bayreuth.

The Koppetentorturm is the only surviving city gate tower of the former city fortifications. The tower was built between 1467 and 1471 as part of an expansion of the city wall.
The other two were either destroyed or dismantled over time.
The name of the gate comes from the fact that the gate originally only had a kind of temporary roof, making it look decapitated (koppet).
As a result of the city fire of 1834, the tower burned down completely and was rebuilt in its current form in 1838.
The Koppetentorstraße leads through the gate.

This fountain was built in 1841 by the master mason Christian Wettengel and renovated and slightly reduced in 1908.
There is a stone pine nut on the fountain column. A pine nut is a coat of arms in the form of the pine cone. The fountain is only a few meters west of the Koppetentor tower.
