You can read the history of this rare type of building and water formation on the Hase very well on these pages - the whole thing dates back to the 16th century, although it has now been beautifully designed by the local history association:

The bifurcation always pays off as a cycling destination. The home club has beautifully designed the facility. There are viewpoints, small sculptures, something about the history of the bifurcation and of course the legend. A toilet and barbecue areas are available.
