The Tomales Bay Ecological Reserve – Inverness Ridge loop from Olema offers a diverse mountain biking experience, taking you through a mix of rolling doubletrack and singletrack. As you climb Inverness Ridge, you'll be treated to expansive views of Tomales Bay and the Pacific Ocean, winding through evergreen forests, coastal scrub, and open meadows. Expect some challenging sections with rutted trails and loose surfaces, making it a rewarding ride for those who enjoy varied terrain and stunning coastal panoramas.
This moderate 19.4-mile (31.2 km) loop, with 2161 feet (659 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes around 2 hours and 36 minutes to complete. While the Inverness Ridge Trail is bike-legal within Point Reyes National Seashore, be aware that bicycles are prohibited on trails within Tomales Bay State Park and the Ecological Reserve itself. Always check current regulations and be prepared for a good workout, especially on the climbs.
Inverness Ridge is a significant geological feature, acting as the backbone of the Point Reyes Peninsula and separating Tomales Bay from the Pacific. The area is known for its diverse coastal habitats and wildlife, including northern spotted owls and black-tailed deer.
