Trinity church opened in 1863 and was described by a local newspaper as “the most truly beautiful structure in the West of Scotland”. The impressive 170-foot (52 m) spire was not added until six years later. After falling into a state of disrepair, the church has recently been restored to its former glory.

This church was not dedicated to one of the many people who died as martyrs (witnesses of faith) for their Christian beliefs, or who we venerate as blessed or saints because of their exemplary way of life. Rather, this church community has chosen God himself - in the "Holy Trinity" - as its patron saint. According to Christian teaching, we believe in ONE God who exists in THREE persons - God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit.
