The floating Rosary Madonna was stolen on August 7, 1962 and was recovered for a ransom of 100,000 DM. It was restored shortly afterwards. After the restoration, an alarm system was installed in the pilgrimage church.

Hiking

The Catholic pilgrimage church “Maria im Weingarten” is located above the Franconian wine village of Volkach on the Main River in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. The late Gothic church is located in the middle of the vineyards of the Franconian wine-growing region on the Volkacher Kirchberg. It still houses an important work of art by the woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider.
