    Hiking

The Rainbow Rim Trail is a 38.5 mile trail along the North Rim. It connects five large "Points" that overhang the canyon: Parissawampitts, Fence Point , Locust Point, North Timp and Timp. Since there is no water along the trail, a practical solution can be to park you car in the middle of the trail. That way, you can hike one section, then back to the car, resupply and hike the second half and back.

Embark on the Rainbow Rim Trail: Locust Point Loop, a moderate hiking route that offers unique perspectives of the Grand Canyon's North Rim. This 6.4-mile (10.3 km) journey takes you through diverse forests and along the rim, providing ever-changing scenery. You will gain 594 feet (181 metres) in elevation, with the hike typically taking around 2 hours and 50 minutes to complete. As you hike, expect a mix of ground surfaces and stunning vistas. From Fence Point, you can spot landmarks like Powell Plateau and Steamboat Mountain, surrounded by beautiful ponderosa pine forests and groves of aspens.

This section of the Rainbow Rim Trail is outside Grand Canyon National Park, so you will not need to pay any access fees. Plan to bring all your own water, as there are no water sources available along the route. While primitive camping is allowed anywhere, remember that no facilities are provided. This means you should be prepared for a self-sufficient outing. Consider starting early to enjoy the cooler temperatures and avoid the midday sun.

The Rainbow Rim Trail offers a distinct experience of the Grand Canyon, setting it apart from the more frequented areas within the national park. Its location provides a quieter, less crowded atmosphere for enjoying the vastness of the canyon. This particular loop highlights a unique segment of the North Rim, allowing you to immerse yourself in its natural beauty. It is a great option if you are looking for a different vantage point of this iconic landscape.
