The annual staircase - built as an occupation for the poor, today integrated into the forest educational trail in the romantic Rodltal.
Alois Peither was a doctor in Gramastetten in the 19th century. He was the owner of the steep slope behind the church leading to the Grosse Rodl. Peither gave work to the poor here by constructing terraces on the slopes and planting hops. He also tried breeding silkworms. In order to be able to access the terraces more easily, Peither had the "annual staircase" built with its 365 steps made of granite stones.
