Heeswijk Castle has an eventful history that goes back to the year 1080. It has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The current form dates from 1835, the result of a thorough renovation and extension in accordance with the wishes of André, baron van den Bogaerde, who turns Castle Heeswijk into his living and working palace. He is best known as the first Governor of the King in Brabant after the secession of Belgium in 1830.
