    Hiking

At the top of the Little Devil Stairs, there is a little area to take a rest and refresh for the rest of the hike. This place is called Four Way, from here it is possible to extend the hike to a 7.5 mile loop, by taking the Pole Link Trail Bridge trail down to the Piney Branch Trail. The Piney Branch Trail then loops back to the Keyser Run Road, which will take you back to the car park.
The most peaceful vantage point on Skyline Drive. My favorite.

You will navigate steep ascents and rock scrambles alongside Keyser Run, where you can enjoy constant small waterfalls and rapids. This difficult route covers 13.1 miles (21.0 km) and involves a significant elevation gain of 2206 feet (672 metres), making it a rewarding experience for experienced hikers.

You'll navigate the strenuous rock scrambles and numerous stream crossings of the Little Devils Stairs, where cascades and waterfalls abound, before transitioning to the more serene, lush environment of the Piney Branch Trail, winding through thick forests alongside the Piney River.

When planning your visit, be aware that the Little Devils Stairs section involves significant rock scrambling and many stream crossings over Keyser Run, which can be challenging with high water levels after heavy rain. Beyond the dramatic gorge of Little Devils Stairs, you'll encounter historical elements like the Bolen family cemetery along the Keyser Run Fire Road. This moderate 5.3-mile (8.6 km) route features a significant 1436 feet (438 metres) of elevation gain, often requiring hikers to use their hands to navigate rock scrambles and steep, wet sections. For an optimal experience, consider tackling the loop counter-clockwise, starting with the more strenuous "stairs" section. The trail is dog-friendly, provided your furry friend stays on a leash. To witness the waterfalls at their most impressive, plan your visit after a recent rain or during the early spring months when water levels are typically higher. Be sure to wear sturdy, waterproof footwear.
