Several places in the beguinage are reminiscent of author and painter Felix Timmermans, who found much inspiration here. He also gave it the nickname "d'amandelboon van Lier". His novella "De zeer schoone uren van Juffrouw Symforosa begijntjen" (1918) is largely set here.

Be sure to take the time to stroll through their beautiful beguinage in Lier. At various places you will find houses here where lace circles make the real Lier lace. A monumental gate gives access to the completely closed court with several streets and alleys. The Grachtkant is a fine example of Brabant architecture. The beguinage church dedicated to Saint Margarita has an impressive baroque interior and a monumental organ.
