Hiking

The "In der Au" lime kiln is one of a series of historical kilns that were used to extract burnt lime from limestone. The kilns were closed during and after the Second World War because the operation was no longer profitable. In the 1980s, thanks to the initiative of geologist Werner Kasig from RWTH Aachen University, a large number of the lime kilns in Walheim, Hahn and Kornelimünster were saved from impending decay and restored.
