From 01.01.2007 and the accession of Romania and Bulgaria, the geographical center of the European Union was located in Gelnhausen until July 1, 2013 – more precisely in the Gelnhausen district of Meerholz.
The measurement point is located exactly at the coordinates: 9 degrees, 9 minutes east longitude and 50 degrees, 10 minutes, 21 seconds north latitude – below the "Niedermittlauer Heiligenkopf", which is one of the three witness mountains in the Kinzigtal valley.
