Hiking

The impressive rock formation and the view from the cozy shelter more than compensate for the climb. Even Goethe was inspired by the panoramic view and wrote the fourth act of his "Iphigenia," the beginning of which is inscribed on a tablet carved into the stone.

Hiking

Here not only the view lures. Here one is also very close to the poet-prince. Just like the Great Hermannsteins, the Schwalbenstein is a rock in the Thuringian Forest, which was often visited by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe when he was in Ilmenau. He wrote here on March 19, 1779, the IV Act of Iphigenia. This is indicated by a tablet attached to the rock.
