Casually and playfully, the young shoemaker's apprentice has slung the pair of boots over his shoulder. He seems proud of the work he is currently learning. Around 1850, Preetz boasted 150 independent master shoemakers, 360 journeyman shoemakers, and 160 shoemaking apprentices. In addition, there was a larger number of clog makers. Today, two monuments and the Clog Makers' Museum in Preetz commemorate this craft.

Around 1850 there were 150 independent master shoemakers, 360 journeymen and 160 apprentices. In addition to these, there were a large number of wooden slipper makers. Two monuments and the wooden shoemaker's museum in Preetz are reminiscent of the craft.

For centuries, shoemaking flourished in Preetz, making the town famous as a "shoemaking town" far beyond the region's borders. As late as 1850, 160 independent master shoemakers with numerous journeymen worked in Preetz. When the shoemaking trade declined due to competition from the shoe industry, Preetz became a "butchering town." Several meat processing plants, with their high-quality meat and sausage products, ensured that the name of Preetz once again became known throughout Germany.
